About Bitcoin

BTC that stands for Bitcoin is the most popular and historically first decentralized digital currency created in 2009. Originally it was invented by a mysterious anonymous person that used Satoshi Nakamoto as a name. Unlike general currencies like the British pound Bitcoin does not exist physically and the balances are stored in a public ledger that is called blockchain and can be accessed by anyone. In fact, Bitcoin is a network of computers (called nodes) that run the code of this cryptocurrency.

New coins are minted using the special process of utilizing hashing power and solving complex computing puzzles. This process is called mining. When a miner finds a new block, he receives a reward in the form of freshly minted coins. The access to the blockchain wallet is provided with a pair of encrypted keys. A public key serves as a bank account to send money to, while a private key is like a PIN code using which a user signs the transaction.
