REN (republic protocol) – is a Singapore-based open-source protocol and decentralized finance (DeFi) project. Ren's core objective is to provide a secure, decentralized, and easy transfer of crypto across blockchains. It was initially founded as the Republic Protocol in 2017 by Taiyang Zhang and Loong Wang. It seeks to decentralize Over-the-Counter (OTC) trading through privacy, interoperability, and secure protocol.
This project relies on RenVM. RenVM is a decentralized virtual machine that replicates thousands of machines to achieve cross-chain lending, collateralization, exchanges, among other functionalities. Fragmentation of orders in the RenVM is made possible by the Shamir Secret Sharing Scheme algorithm. Ren Token is the native utility token that allows users to participate in the Dark Pool by paying bonds to the Registrar. Besides, it acts as an incentive to node operators when matching orders.
