In an exclusive interview, we speak to Raymond Chen, the Co-Founder of PetCare Foundation and LOOTaDOG. Both are interesting projects based in Sydney, Australia, where the App has just launched.
Chris: It is an interesting concept. Let’s start with PetCare Foundation - tell us why you decided to start a charity foundation for pets on the blockchain?
Raymond Chen: I have a dog myself, and I’ve seen how some pets can be abandoned or its owners have problems funding medical bills and so forth. By starting PetCare Foundation, I think we fill a gap that other charities at the moment don’t cover, even when there are so many animal charities.
Recently people have started to also doubt the accountability and transparency of charities. We hear about how some charity executives mishandle funds or how very little of the funds raised actually go towards helping the cause they stand behind. For PetCare Foundation, every transaction and all monies going toward the foundation can be tracked via the blockchain ledger, making it fully transparent and this real-time financial information, I believe, should be the gold standard of how charities should be run.
Users are also able to see how the funds are located, and track where it is being funnelled to, which I think is important.
Chris: PetCare Foundation is mostly funded by LOOTaDOG users - what is LOOTaDOG and why did you decide to build it as a Web3 App?
Raymond Chen: It all started with a small idea of having an App to be a one-stop-shop for all your pet needs. I don’t know about you, but it is quite a feat to keep one’s furry friend fed, groomed, healthy, dressed and all. So many of my team has pets and we wanted to build something fun and engaging, that enables us to take care of all our pet needs, including being able to contribute to a community charity that makes pets’ lives better.
When it came to building the App, for us it is an obvious thing to go straight to building a Web3 App - after all we’ve been in the technology field for a while and we knew all the positives that came with it. I also wanted to build some social elements such as the charity, which as I’ve said above, building it on the blockchain does give transparency to the PetCare Foundation, and with LOOTaDOG, we have already launched our walk-to-earn component and are also building Player vs Player functionalities. A small portion of these rewards to users is automatically donated to the PetCare Foundation, it is really rewarding to be a part of this project, especially since it is free to play for any users.
One important feature of Web3 that does help us is its agility and inclusivity. It gives us the flexibility to scale and bring the project global, as well as making the User Experience at the same time, both local and international. Your experience in the App also includes in-real-life touchpoints in your local community, and at the same time you are part of the international LOOTaDOG community. This means that even if you do travel a lot, you can continue to walk-to-earn and have that same experience no matter where you go.
Chris: I like the sound of walk-to-earn. How do I get involved?
Raymond Chen: It is really simple to walk-to-earn with us. You’d just need to download the LOOTaDOG App on your device, sign up, and you are ready to go. We wanted the walk-to-earn functionality to be really accessible and fun, easy for everybody to be involved in a good cause. That is why 10% of the walk-to-earn rewards automatically goes to PetCare Foundation, it is in-built as a default. Of course, you can select to donate more of it and also make an external donation if you want to. Either way, all transactions are recorded on the blockchain and are fully transparent. You can also see how we disperse the funds, so we are accountable for the monies that you have entrusted us with.
With the walk-to-earn element, we reward Users for their time, effort and participation in our App. We believe in putting the power and value back into the hands of the Users. We see this play-to-earn concept growing rapidly over the next few years, as Corporations and Users both value their time properly. After all, what is good for the User in generating income themselves, is good for our App as an ecosystem.
Chris: What are some exciting developments you have with these projects?
Raymond: We have quite a lot going on that it’ll probably take two days to even take you through it. I’d say that if you are interested, do check out our comprehensive roadmap on our website. You’ll definitely see more news in this space with some of our partners, brands and celebrity ambassadors over the next few months.. We have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure that the App and its User-base is as inclusive as possible, even for Users that might not be well versed with Web3. Simplifying it is key in the adoption of LOOTaDOG and the success of PetCare Foundation.
Chris: Final word? Where can you guys be found?
