Gemini Dollar (GUSD) is a stablecoin pegged and backed by US dollars. The dollars are held in reserve at Trust company and State Street Bank. The coin was founded in 2014 by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss. GUSD aims to bridge the gap between the crypto industry and the traditional finance systems.
Since Gemini Dollar is an ERC-20 token (Ethereum based network), its smart contracts are audited by security company Trail of Bits Inc. The stablecoin is unique from the other stablecoins because it is regulated by the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS). For security purposes, the network uses a multi-signature scheme of approval for high-risk action and an added offline signature.
