March 12, 2025 – Cryptocurrency exchange Gemini has announced the launch of USD payment rails for institutional customers across the United Kingdom and Switzerland, with plans to expand the service to the broader European Union and European Economic Area in the coming weeks.
The new functionality allows institutional clients in these regions to conduct cryptocurrency transactions directly using US dollars, including deposits, withdrawals, and access to more than 80 different USD trading pairs. Gemini is also extending this service to institutions in Gibraltar, Jersey, Guernsey, and the Isle of Man.
"This integration aligns with our commitment to provide a stable and reliable trading environment, offering further convenience to users," Gemini stated in their announcement.
Enhanced Service Features
The USD payment infrastructure has been established through a partnership with Bank Frick, a Liechtenstein-based financial institution founded in 1998 that specializes in fund administration, blockchain banking, and fund management.
As part of the launch, Gemini is implementing several customer-friendly features:
- UK institutions will temporarily enjoy fee-free deposits and withdrawals of fiat funds using the new USD rails
- Integration with xPULSE, Bank Frick's 23/7 payment service, enabling seamless banking operations outside standard business hours
- Access to a significantly expanded range of trading pairs denominated in USD
European Expansion
Gemini, which has been operating in the UK since 2020, indicated that the same USD functionality will be extended to all EU and EEA institutional customers in the coming weeks, representing a significant expansion of dollar-based services for European crypto institutions.
Institutions interested in utilizing the new USD rails can contact Gemini's institutional team directly.
This development comes as more traditional financial institutions continue to establish infrastructure bridges with cryptocurrency markets, highlighting the growing institutionalization of digital asset trading and investment.
